Cape Town Gay Hiking Club: Explore Nature with Like-Minded Friends

A Thrilling Hiking Experience in the Beautiful Cape Town Region

Our inclusive hiking club welcomes LGBTQ+ individuals of all ages and fitness levels. We average 35 participants, but occasional gatherings see a larger turnout of up to 50 hikers.

The stunning scenery and diverse group make every hike unforgettable. Remember to bring your own food and water. Alcohol is permitted in moderation, particularly during our midday breaks or braais.

What to Pack for Our Hikes

Don't forget your charcoal and braai equipment!

You'll also need to supply your own meat, salads, and other refreshments.

While stylish hiking attire is welcome, the most important thing is your enjoyment and comfort. Our hikes typically follow longer circular routes during the winter months, with a picturesque lunch stop halfway through. In the warmer summer months, hikes are shorter, and often culminate with a delicious braai lunch and a refreshing swim back at the gathering point.

We prioritize the safety and comfort of all participants.

To ensure everyone has an enjoyable experience, please remember to bring adequate provisions and follow the guidelines for what to pack, based on the specific hike details. We take regular breaks, allowing for rest stops and water or snacks to refuel hikers of all paces.

Please note that participation is entirely at your own risk.

You must complete and sign our liability waiver before the start of any hike. Come and connect with new friends, discover spectacular landscapes, and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Exploring Cape Town Beyond the Hikes

Looking for LGBTQ+ accommodations in Somerset West?

The Pink Rose Guesthouse offers a delightful retreat for gay men. Located just a short drive outside of Cape Town, it's a peaceful escape with stunning views, a refreshing pool and hot tub, and rejuvenating massages offered by the friendly hosts. It's the perfect base camp for exploring the area's attractions before heading into the city centre.

Discovering Cape Town's Nightlife

The city's vibrant nightlife, however, has seen some changes in the past decade.

While many gay bars have closed, several excellent venues remain. Here are a few of our favourites:

  • The Pink Candy: This popular venue offers a glamorous atmosphere with plenty of space to dance and enjoy the music. Expect a diverse music selection.
  • Stargayzers: A popular Pride celebration destination, this club often hosts special events and themed nights, creating an exceptional atmosphere.
  • Evol: For up-to-date event schedules and details, check Evol's Facebook page.

Check opening hours and schedule for details.

These are just a taste of the excellent options for entertainment in Cape Town. Other spots, including those focusing on casual cruising, are also available.

Beyond the City: Gay Beaches and Saunas

Beyond the city centre, Cape Town boasts a variety of beaches and other unique experiences.

Some discreet beaches and locations for socialising are available. For gay saunas, the Shaft Cruise Zone offers a dedicated space in Observatory.

Cape Town Pride and Beyond

  • Cape Town Pride: This annual festival, spanning 10 days, celebrates the LGBTQ+ community with a range of events.

Highlight of the festival is the parade, featuring costumes, floats, musicians, and performers.

  • Rocking the Daisies: Although not exclusively gay, this popular music festival, held in October, often attracts a significant LGBTQ+ presence.

Dining in Cape Town: A Culinary Adventure

Cape Town's food scene is as diverse as its people.

Experience a taste of South Africa's flavour by visiting establishments such as:

  • Fyn Restaurant: Indulge in a fusion of Japanese and African cuisine in a sophisticated setting.
  • Madam Taitou: A relaxing spot for Ethiopian cuisine, with a wide selection of vegetarian and vegan options.
  • Mzansi Restaurant: Embark on a culinary journey through traditional South African cuisine, whilst learning about the cultural significance of the food.

Experiencing Cape Town's Attractions: Cultural Gems and Iconic Landmarks

Beyond the nightlife and dining, Cape Town offers a range of sights and activities, like:

  • Table Mountain: Hike to the summit for breathtaking views of the city and the Atlantic Ocean.
  • Robben Island: Reflect on history at the island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned.
  • Cape Winelands: Enjoy a wine-tasting tour through the beautiful vineyards.
